RGS Gemmological Institute
The Razi Gem-Sciences Institute (RGS) was officially registered in 2024 with the goal of providing specialized services in the field of gem sciences.
The need among jewelry and gemstone professionals, as well as classical gemology laboratories in Iran, for an advanced and comprehensive laboratory specializing in the identification of colored gemstones and diamonds—particularly the origin determination of emeralds and rubies, and the detection of treatments such as HPHT in diamonds, beryllium/titanium diffusion in rubies, and polymer-filled fractures in emeralds—prompted the management of the Foundation of Applied Sciences to establish this institute in the fields of education, research, and laboratory services.
The institute has commenced its activities in the fields of advanced gemological research and education. The laboratory’s inauguration will take place at the 17th International Exhibition of Gold, Jewelry, Silver, Precious Stones, Watches, and Related Industries at the Iran Mall International Exhibitions Center, from February 4th to 8th, 2026.
By utilizing advanced gemological equipment alongside a robust and up-to-date database, this laboratory can provide an accurate, reliable, and world-standard platform for all universities, research centers, classical gemology laboratories, and jewelry industry professionals.
Among the modern equipment at this center are FTIR, UV-Vis-NIR, and RAMAN spectrometers, as well as point elemental analysis devices such as LIBS and LA-ICP-MS (currently being equipped). These tools make origin determination for emeralds and rubies and authenticity verification for diamonds possible for the first time in Iran
